Mousies

I was at the Dinosaur Ridge Hawkwatch (near Morrison, Colorado) today, and in addition to the raptors we counted was a Common Raven flying up and down the ridge with something in its bill. On the closest pass I snapped some pics and when I checked them out I saw that it was carrying a mouse. I wonder if it was flying up and down to show off to a mate?

Anyway, it brought two things to mind. First, a few other shots I've taken in the last few months of birds with mice (well, one a real bird and another an eagle sculpture that was livened up a bit with a road-killed mouse.) Second, a poem I remember my dad saying at the dinner table whenever we had some of my mom's spicy pickled green beans, which we called mousie tails:

"Love to eat them mousies
Mousie's what I love to eat.
Bite they little heads off
Nibble on they tiny feet."

Amazing! You really catch them doing what they do, don't you? I was admiring the kestral's beauty before I even saw that it had its prey.
